Tampa Bay Downs
There’s a big day of racing this Saturday at Tampa Bay Downs! They’ve got a ten-race card, with two stakes races: the Turf Dash and the Lightning City. First post time is 12:25 PM EST, with the two stakes going off at 3:55 PM and 2:55 PM, respectively.
To help you out with all the action, we’ve got Elaine Daniels (@edan1962) providing free picks & analysis in her second season of handicapping on Danonymous Racing.
We encourage you to give Elaine a follow on twitter; she’ll be providing analysis of the great racing at Tampa Bay all meet long.
Take it away, Elaine!
RACE 1 – Claiming $16,000, 2yo fillies, 6 ½ Furlongs
7 – Angelfromthestars (9-2) – This Filly broke her maiden ten days ago here at Tampa Bay Downs.
5 – Top Hat Tizzy (2-1) – The second Wayne Potts trained entry picks up the services of leading jockey Daniel Centeno. After a turf race, 14 days ago, where she was done early, look for her to turn a profit today.
6 – Obvious Two (3-1) – Aldana Gonzalez teams up with beau Scott Spieth on this Take Charge Indy 2 year old Filly.
RACE 2 – Claiming $8,000N2L, 3&up, 1 and 1/16 Mile
3 – Master Chief (9-5) – To Honor and Serve colt is taking a class drop and should be battling it out up front with second choice Warranted. Retains Gallardo. Gallardo and Rodriguez have a 33% win rate when they team up.
8 – Warranted (5-2) – Jockey Edwin Gonzalez is off to a great start at the meet having already compiled seven wins. Ships in from Gulfstream Park West and is one for one at today’s distance.
2 – Soby Junior (4-1) – Almost won at this level on December 6th. Put in a bullet work on December 17th.
RACE 3 – AOC $32,000/N2X, F&M 3&up, 7 Furlongs
4 – Neuqua (6-1) – This Shackelford Filly won her last race with a strong closing kick. Trainer Hinsley off to a good meet winning at 27%
2 – Camille Claudel (3-1) – She’s been running in higher classed races and has a career high 73 Beyer speed figure score for the distance albeit over a year ago.
7 – Orientate to Luv (7-2) – Picks up Pablo Morales in the irons.
RACE 4 – Maiden Claiming $16,000, 3&up, 1 Mile TURF
3 – Im Chillin (5-1) – This Eskendereya gelding should improve second off a layoff. Ran at the same level here on December 6th and disappointed as the favorite that day. Loses Gallardo but picks up the very capable Jesus Castanon.
10 – Helmet Head (3-2) – Hard to ignore that this gelding was in Todd Pletcher’s barn, is currently running for Mark Casse, and lures top jockey Centeno. Recently gelded and takes a big class drop.
6 – Cleave (20-1) – This $250,000 Smart Strike gelding has a pathetic $852 in career earnings. Possesses the field’s highest Tomlinson for the distance and earned his best Beyer on turf. A price for the bottom of exotics.
RACE 5 – Maiden Claiming $16,000, 2yo, 7 Furlongs
10 – Seeyainthetestbarn – Should benefit from the extra furlong.
1 – Toss- Camacho gets the mount this time to get the win for this gelded son of Kantharos.
7 – Mikebravozerothree – Willie Martinez stays aboard and should be up for a piece.
RACE 6 – The $100,000 Lightning City Stakes, F&M 3&up, 5 Furlongs TURF
2- Smiling Causeway (9-5) – Has never finished out of the exacta in her first six career races. Will face pace pressure here but has responded well to pace pressure against better.
4 – My Sweet Dove (5-2) – Edgar Zayas gives up a Saturday at Gulfstream Park to ride this six year old mare at Tampa. Finished a troubled second in Gulfstream’s Claiming Crown Turf Dash on December 2d.
9 – Sylphide (8-1) – The second horse trained by Jane Cibelli to make an appearance at the meet. Should be ready to roll off two bullet works in December at Palm Meadows.
RACE 7 – Starter Optional Claiming $12,000/SAL8K, 3&up, 6 ½ Furlongs
6 – Fancy Man – This 5 year old gelded son of Wildcat Heir threw in a “clunker” two races back, but seems to be back on track after its last race.
3 – Doodle Hopper – If he runs to the way he ran at Gulfstream 28 days ago, he should demolish the field.
7 – Divine Ambition – Maria Bowersock puts Ronnie Allen, Jr. aboard looking for two in a row
RACE 8 – The $100,000 Turf Dash, 3&up, 5 Furlongs TURF
3 – Pay Any Price (8-5) – A distance specialist who doesn’t like to lose. The 100 Beyer he earned in his last race on December 2nd tops the field’s lifetime Beyers.
2 – Conquest Enforcer (6-1) – Returns to the Mark Casse barn where he had considerable success at Woodbine. Possesses both strong early and late US Timeform pace figures.
1 – Dubini (5-1) – Gio Ponti son has won four of five at 5 furlongs including a 5 furlong win last March at Tampa. Centeno has the mount.
RACE 9 – MSW $27,000, 2yo fillies, 7 Furlongs
10 – R True Talent – This 2 year old Filly out of Yes It’s True finished 3rd in the $50,000 Sandpiper 2 weeks ago. This race should break her maiden.
4 – Pearl’s Opinion – This Stay Thirsty Filly has been here working out over the deep Tampa dirt since the end of November. Camacho gets the call to break the maiden
2 – Unanimity – Coming out of the same Churchill race as the 4, this Union Rags filly was closing strong. She should show improvement here today
RACE 10 – Claiming $16,000N3L, F&M 3&up, 1 and 1/16 Mile TURF
12 – Sophieshardtocatch (10-1) – Trainer Michael Stidham is near the top of the trainer standings having won 5 of 11 turf routes. Should improve second off a layoff.
4 – Kisskiss Telltell (7-2) – Toss her last off turf race. This Telling filly ran a competitive 70 Beyer on the turf in July. Could be the main beneficiary if the pace up front collapses.
3 – Odachi (3-1) – First Samurai mare will be on or near the lead. Outran her odds last race at same level on December 6th. Trainer Hamm has a respectable 25% win rate.
