We’re California-bound on Danonymous Racing, for we’ve got Sebastian Piscuskas (@SeaBass912) providing FREE picks & analysis of the Friday Santa Anita card!
Sebastian has been one of our featured West Coast handicappers for some time now. You can find his picks for Southern California racing every Friday on Danonymous Racing. We thank Sebastian for sharing his thoughts today. We encourage you to give him a follow on Twitter when you get a chance. Take it away, Sebastian…
Race 1: This race is as paceless as they come. #7 Professor Berns is the only horse in recent memory to show any kind of pace in his running lines. However, he is a much more effective horse coming from well off the pace. This race could very well see the slowest opening half of the meet and all seven have a chance.
Race 2: #2 Princess Tiznow broke her maiden in powerful fashion at Los Al in December. She has the best tactical speed of the group and is eligible to wire this field should Garcia choose to not send from the rail. Many options for this daughter of American Lion who is strictly the horse to beat.
Race 3: #2 Trinitys Turn is easily the most accomplished horse in the group and in primed for a big effort in her second start off the short layoff. She’s been drilling consistently in the morning. #3 Sheswidlnfree jumped up to register a runaway victory in her first start with Prat in the saddle. Prat sticks aboard for Eurton and they do quite well together.
Race 4: #8 Kadabadoo drops to bottom for her first start down South. She debuted for 25k, running a credible second, and since then has been run over her head at Golden Gate. The drop in class makes a lot of sense and the cutback should only help. Contreras/Moger has been a profitable, yet albeit quiet, angle this season. #5 Nang Noi spotted the field at least two lengths when breaking slow on debut and raced greenly in the lane, but came on well enough. With a cleaner break she will likely factor in the decision today.
Race 5: #1 Place des Vosges came on exceptionally well in her last start despite chasing a slow pace. She’s always done better at distances further than a mile so the mile and a quarter should really aid her cause. There is more pace in this heat as well. #7 Lady Pamela was fantastic two starts ago when routing on grass. She returns to grass and should continue to improve.
Race 6: #11 Nashoga debuts for Wallace with even works in a very wide open race. The known commodities are not world beaters so I will take a flier on this first-time starter. #2 Not Chopped Liver came up just short on debut in Novemeber and was then laid up until February where he flopped badly against better. He drops in class and should get woken up a bit with the addition of blinkers.
Race 7: #4 Ready to Hula Lula is one of my favorite horses but she has distance limitations like you wouldn’t believe. The cutback in distance will only help her. #8 Pied N True gets back on dirt after three fruitless tries on turf. She has a cozy outside slot and is the best closer of the bunch.
Race 8: #6 Set You Free contested the pace before dropping like a stone in the stretch. She was likely short and has worked well in the morning for her second career start. She should sit a comfortable trip just off the runner to her immediate outside and will be in a good striking position should her foe come up short in the lane, as she has every time. #3 Moonless Sky has hit the board in all four career starts and makes her first start out of Florida for Truman. The Bold Chieftain filly has shown good tactical speed on both surfaces and at all distances and should sit another good trip today.
