Santa Anita Park
There’s a 9-race card at Santa Anita today, highlighted by the Sweet Life Stakes, on the downhill turf. After an early start last Sunday, the first post time today will be 12:30 PM EST.
We’ve got Spencer Luginbuhl (@handi_capper) providing thoughts for all the action. Spencer’s been our Southern Californian handicapper for a while now, and we thank Spencer for his picks. Be sure to give him a follow on twitter!
Special thanks to John for letting me continue my dream of giving my picks as a public handicapper

#4 Vasilika: This filly likes the distance and comes off a layoff for a sharp trainer off these types of breaks. Improving Beyers add to the appeal.
#3 Aura Rose: This 4-year-old has never won at Santa Anita but has hit the board in 4 of 5 times. She is bred to love this mile distance and has improved a ton in her last two races.
#5 Kiss of Daphespe: I’m always under the impression with three-year-olds to not think of a bounce until the horse bounces. she has three excellent races to start off her career and now faces statebreds for only the second time her first being the big maiden win on debut.
#4 Smiling Tigress: Ran an improved second first off the layoff losing to a horse that freaked to win by 8. Big 5 furlong work tells me this daughter of Smiling Tiger might be cycling up to one of her better races.
#4 More Honor: He was off slow in the debut, and I usually like to see a gate work to fix the problem, he is the only horse to run in the exacta so far in his career. Trainer Mark Glatt is very good with second-time starters.
#1 Crazy Uncle Rick: Ran well in a restricted stake first time out so you know the connections see potential. Jockey switch to the top apprentice also shows positive trainer intent.
#5 A Red Tie Day: One of my Favorite horses he gets a positive rider switch to Prat. the class drop is a bit extreme, but the back class should help this 8-year-old find the winners circle
#1 Little Scotty: This Gelding will try to use his speed from the inside and wire the field. Trainer Vladamir Cerin has had an excellent meet so far.
#4 Call Me Soul: Not the best trainer stats second time out, but I always will take the horse with a better chance of improvement and with that trainer stat the price might be much better
#6 Sagittari: Needed to ship up north for a placing but maybe the ship back down shows the confidence they found the right spot on the claiming ladder. Trainer Keith Desormeaux has good numbers second off the layoff.
