On Wednesday night, we’re heading out to Pompano Park for some Florida harness racing action. We’ve got Joseph Bengston (@horseraceguy101) providing picks & analysis of the Pompano card tonight. The first race tonight is scheduled for 7:20 PM EST.
We encourage you to give Joseph a follow; he’ll be providing picks & analysis every Wednesday night of all the Pompano action.
Take it away, Joseph!
The first race at Pompano doesn’t appear to have lots of early speed type others in the race. The few exceptions are the #6 Galley Wench and the #8 Skeeball. These two will likely be the ones on the front end showing the most early speed, only disadvantage is the outer posts. Galley Wench is leaving from same post as the last time these two raced. Skeeball also had post seven, and now gets post eight. Ricky Macomber Jr tried to get the lead with this one last time and will likely look to do the same here. The most interesting entry in the race is the #3 Fox Valley Addison. She is dropping in class from the open 5 division. Fern Paquet Jr will be back in the sulky and gets the same post as last week. This one doesn’t appear to have tons of early speed, however from post three I believe a trip might be in suite for her.
The second race features Wild Wanda who won last week in a rather impressive performance. This one will likely be much the best again this time around. The morning line of 5/2 will probably be much lower then odds are final. The entry in this race that finished second to Wild Wanda is the #5 Godiva Seelster. Wally Hennessey will again have to keep Wild Wanda from passing this one in the stretch, should he get the lead. The best horse for value in the race is the #4 Goldstar Rockette, who finished third to those two last time out. These three horses seem to be better than the rest of the field. The positions of where the finish will come down to the trips they get.
The third has a early speedster in the #1 Ton of Luck. Rick Plano tried to get the lead early last week but was parked early before taking the lead. From post one instead of post 5 will again try to vie for the lead. A interesting prospect in the race is the #2 Heather. This one is taking a class drop and last weeks field as a whole was much better than this one. Depsite finishing 5th last time out, Tom Jackson has a shot to win here with a trip, or a potential play for the exotics. Coming out of the same race and finishing sixth is the #5 Scirocco Miley Kay. This one had post eight last week and gets post relief here. Jim Meittnis has options to sit pocket, try for the lead or try to get a first or second over trip. Has shown breaks in the past and will need to keep to task. The other entry that is appealing is the #8 Keystone Christa who finished third last time out. I believe the way this race may set up that Kevin Wallis might be able to drive this one to the winner’s circle, only if he can get a decent pace up front to close into. The odds on this one will likely be higher and the best value for the race. The post may be a bit of a problem, however I’d try to put this one on top, as its better to lose with a long shot than win with a small paying favorite.
The fourth race has Miss Dollar Mam who won last time out, leaving from post one. This one is fast and will be using that early speed. The horse to follow suit will once again will be #2 Sweet Bet who got the lead last week but lost by a neck to Miss Dollar Mam. These two will be on the front end of the pace in the race. The horse that has a shot to do well with those two battling up top is #4 Art Frenzy. Art Frenzy is coming off a second place finish closing from off the pace in what was a pretty quick pace up front. This one likely to be flying in the stretch as long as this one doesn’t get boxed in or moves too late. The #5 Sugar Crush and #6 Drea’s Good Powow could be potential plays for third or fourth. That being said, seeing either win with the right trips wouldn’t be a huge shock.
The top selection in the fourth goes to #5 Maejusmac. I’ll look to this one again as last week was a live long shot, I had thought but this time around should be your well deserved favorite. #3 Go Go Patty Jo has potential coming out of an open 5 class and takes a class drop in here. #6 Shady’s Art is an interesting one that could get a trip from post six as this one doesn’t mind racing from the back. The #8 Gold Star Sonata is dropping in class, coming off a rather poor performance. This one should do much better with the class drop but the post may be a bit of a factor.
The sixth race looks pretty wide open. When playing multi-race wagers, this may be a good race to hit the all button, or spread the most in this race. I will post selections for this race. however anyone’s guess is as good as mine.
The seventh race should be as easy as one, two, three. The #1 Sue’s Night Out #2 Southwind Trini and #3 Single Me all appear to be the best in this field. Most of the field all coming out of the same race with the exception of the #1 Sue’s Night Out, however this one pulled out a victory last time out, in what where some fast fractions upfront. Any of these three could win, and all should be there at the end. The horse with potential to pull a upset over those three is the #7 Astarisontheway with a driver change to Ricky Macomber Jr. This mare finished 4th last time out in the same race as Southwind Trini and Single me, I suspect this one will try to close again from the back. I pegged this one for fourth, but for maxium return you should put this one on top in your exotics. This is especially because this one winning would not be a huge surprise, but would need some racing luck.
In the eighth race one of the best bets goes to #6 Ontheclock Hanover who was a horse I thought you could single last week in multi race wagers. This one again I believe is one to single, again I believe has the best class in the race, but will need to improve from last week. This one will have a target on it’s back as the one to beat.
