A solid card, Saturday, at Oaklawn; some nice price plays, let’s take a shot. Card highlighted by a solid edition of the American Beauty. Shout out to Danonymousracing.com and John Piassek for the opportunity to share my picks with you! Follow me on Twitter @ BoxEmandBetEm Good luck and good racing!
Race 1) 9-8-11-6
#9-Okbyecya-Tough race to start the card, this one was entered on Friday and scratched to this spot. Has a win at the distance in two tries, and should sit mid-pack at the mile.
#8-C C’s Song-Jock has been riding well. This one intrigues, especially at the distance, winning 5/8; should sit just off the speed coming into race fresh.
#11-Stina-Another that like the distance. Coming in off a slight freshening, takes a slight drop in class for a good barn, is tactical enough to be in the race early.
Race 2) 10-12-3-7
#10-Cause to Action-2nd off the layoff for the Assmussen barn and gets Santana. Improved in last race off the shelf, should be dead fit to graduate here.
#12-B Dubya-Hartmann and Cabrera tandem here, gets of rail and won’t be as far back as he was in last, exits the same race as top pick. Must respect everything this trainer-jock sends to the track.
#3-Thunder and Rain-Second career start, should improve. Trainer switch to O’Neill, bet heavily in debut for Pletcher.
Race 3) 9-3-4-2
#9-King of Anything-Nice local work in last, scratched to this spot, fresh and should be ready to fire off last work, from a nice stalking post position.
#3-Alabama Tide-Again, the Hartmann and Cabrera combo; ran a solid fig at this level three back that should have this one in the mix turning for home.
#4-Kapellmesiter-Second off the layoff angle for Assmussen and Santana here; has solid races at the level, two and three back. Santana is a major rider upgrade.
Race 4) 4-3-7-9
#4-Spinning Serve-Stable horse for me here, was to run on Thursday, but scratched to this spot. I liked on Wednesday and I like here as well. Claimed by Ortiz and adds the hood.
#3-Articulator-Broke his maiden impressively at Oaklawn on opening day and wheels back in this spot. There was moisture in the track labeled good that day. Was it the moisture that moved this one up? Had some trips issues as well.
#7-Drc All Inclusive-Drops in class for Caldwell and connections; Vazquez regains the mount and obviously knows the horse well; added blinkers three back and is a better horse.
Pick 5 – 1 7 10/4 7/4 8 10 12/1 4 6/5 8 9
Race 5) 10-7-1-3
#10-Toasting Master-Quality horse for Mason, who wheels this one back quickly off a nice win earlier in the meet. A very solid race for the level.
#7-Malibu Pro-This is a hard knocking horse with some back class. Takes a drop out of graded stakes company and an off track last out at Keeneland. This one has been freshened for this spot for a good barn; two for two at the distance.
#1-Altito-Has some good races to draw from. Takes a class drop and will a nice price to use underneath.
Pick 4 – 47/481012/146/3589
Race 6) 4-7-1-5
#4-Futile-Drops out of the 5th Season run the first weekend of the meet for Hartman. This is a nice horse with every chance to take another step forward today. Should be in the mix early and likes the distance.
#7-Rated R Superstar-Runs well off layoffs. Santana rode in last and this horse has run well at Oaklawn. Back class to draw from
#1-Dan the Go to Man-Exits the same race as the top choice. Will save ground, but a notch below the top two; like that Hill gets the call here. Back in an easier spot as well.
Race 7) 8-12-10
#8-Treble-Some back in which to draw from, though Moquett is not the best at this type of layoff. Likes Oaklawn and hits hard at the distance; last two races has had excuses in my eyes, caught a wet track in last and had issues at the start two back. Cohen will get this one into the race early.
#12-What a Star-Maldonado has been riding well early in the meet. On paper, the works tell me this one will be fit off the shelf; cozy post at the distance to stalk and pounce.
#10-Bella Verde-Fires and Court hit hard. Fresh this one will be controlling the pace.
Race 8) 6-1-4-2
#6-Scotty’s Model-I admit I don’t have a good feel for this barn yet. Tough to gauge the poly angle from Woodbine, I do like the fact Contreras takes the call. Solid numbers on the poly, will it translate to the dirt. Should be dead fit.
#1-Summer House-Second off the layoff for Diodoro; likes the distance and had ran against quality horses in the past.
#4-Okie Diva-Coming into the race with some solid works; is coming into race very well, with three wins in a row. Doesn’t have to take a back seat to any in this race.
Race 9) 8-9-5
#8-Big Gray Rocket-I have no feel whatsoever for this horse. I pick to win, he runs awful, I pick against, and he runs a hole in the wind. Off the trainer switch, is still the fastest horse in the race, but again, tepid top pick.
#9-Starstruck Kitten-Claimed and immediately up the class ladder for Assmussen; has a win over the strip and at 12-1 on the morning line I’ll take a chance in case the top pick doesn’t pick up a hoof.
#5-Zipp On By-This one is entered at FG, tomorrow, so will have a better sense come scratch time. Fits with these, improving with each start, throw out the turf races.\
