Northfield Park (Harness Racing)
Tonight, we’re taking it to Northfield Park in Ohio, where big cards and big fields are the name of the game. On this Tuesday night, we’ve got Michael Carter (@mcarte1) providing FREE picks & analysis of the pick 4 and super high 5 races.
Michael serves as the assistant director of mutuels and backup track announcer at Northfield. He’s also the co-host of the Post Time with Mike & Mike radio show, which has new episodes every Thursday night. Give Michael a follow on twitter, and be sure to check out his radio broadcasts as well.
Take it away, Michael!

Race 8: Special Blend (4) could provide a little bit of an upset chance this week from post four. He dropped to this class last out for trainer Curtis Rice and then drew the dreaded eight hole. He has hit the board against tougher and should be prominently placed tonight. If you are looking for a little bit of a shocker, maybe play Sharkhart (9). He gets a decent draw tonight from the second tier where he will be following a little bit of speed. He is taking another class drop tonight and hoping it plays to his advantage. Connor Hanover (3) could provide some value as there isn’t a really big favorite in this group. He draws well this week and if you throw out the start last time out, he has been improving.
Race 9: Stanley K (6) is coming off a season in the 2016 Ohio Sire Stakes. Tonight he is making his three year old debut off two very good qualifiers where he has been improving significantly. He draws well this week and towers over this group. Youth (2) really has looked sharp coming off the pace in both efforts. My only concern is how slow he begins no matter what post he is starting from. He has a case of seconditis, but could race very strongly. Norm At Work (4) is another Ohio Sire Stakes horse making a start tonight. Last out against tough company he raced extremely well and finished a strong second just missing. Should make up for that tonight.
Race 10: Noble Dunn (4) made his first start off the layoff last out for trainer Jim Larrabee and looked very good in that effort. Tonight I expect him to be better off that effort. Balanced Game (6) is dropping in class after facing some very tough company. He has been known to show up at some big prices, tonight you won’t get the price, but you will get a very big effort. Montana Skies (1) is going to be one of the big favorites, who has hit the board against this group before from an outside post. He finally draws the inside this week and that could very well play to his favor.
Race 11: How Are Yee John (7) used one of my wagering angles to his advantage in his last start in winning first time on Lasix. He draws very tough this week, but he has a ton of early speed to contend with and has a heart of a champion. Definitely want to consider on the pick 4 and I am going to single here. Peggy King (2) has hit the board in four of his last five pari-mutuel starts. She draws very well this week and while she has a little bit of speed she likes to come from off the pace. Oakley Doakley (4) moved up to this class two starts back and has handled both of them with class. While he hasn’t won yet, he has been close in both efforts.
Race 13: This is a very tough race and we are going to try to beat the even money morning line favorite with Shak Fantasy (5). He moved up to this group last time out went to the lead and just got passed at the wire. He really got along well with driver Luke Ebersole and he gets the drive again this week. Yolo Hanover (1) raced well just missing against this group last time out. Tonight he draws the rail and will be tough, but the fact he doesn’t have a lot of gate speed is concerning to me. Dallas Seelster (7) draws very tough on the outside, but I have a feeling he will be able to come from off the pace and be close. He is dropping again in class tonight which should also help.
