Northfield Park (Harness Racing)
Tonight, we’re taking it to Northfield Park in Ohio, where big cards and big fields are the name of the game. On this Monday night, we’ve got Michael Carter (@mcarte1) providing FREE picks & analysis of the pick 4 races.
Michael serves as the assistant director of mutuels and backup track announcer at Northfield. He’s also the co-host of the Post Time with Mike & Mike radio show, which has new episodes every Thursday night. Give Michael a follow on twitter, and be sure to check out his radio broadcasts as well.
Take it away, Michael!
$1.00 Pick 4 (Race 8) Guaranteed Pool $10,000
1,3,9/1/1,2/ALL – Cost: $54.00
$.20 Super Hi-5 (Race 13) Guaranteed Pool $10,000
1,9/1,8,9/1,2,8,9/1,2,6,8,9/ALL – Cost: $16.00
Race 8: Rick’s Sign (4) defeated this class in his last start and did it handily with Ronnie Wrenn Jr. in the bike. Tonight he gets a better post position and Ronnie back, unfortunately it won’t be at much of a price. He has looked sharp in his last couple of starts, definitely worth a look. Good Win Earl (2) could definitely play spoiler against this group, last week he finished a strong fifth against very tough company after being very consistent at Northfield for trainer Jessica Roegner. Do not ignore this gelding who will be poised to strike late. Ron Burke bring in an interesting 4 year old gelding tonight who has only one trip to Northfield and it was a winning one. World Of Gaming (6) hasn’t had the best luck at Miami Valley so tonight he ventures up to take on a class he has defeated before.
Race 9: Southwind Amazon (7) draws back in this week after two good performances over the Flying Turns. They haven’t been the dominate races since coming back from Hosier park on April 14, I would be leery about singling him here. Hickory Icon (5) has been putting in some very impressive miles over the track at Plainridge and hasn’t put up a time slower than 1:50.4 in his last four starts. He will not be a price, but is a play in the Pick 4. Control Tower (6) comes up from Miami Valley after a game winning effort against Open Company. Tonight he draws tough, but his gait speed could play to his favor.
Race 10: The Open trot at Northfield Park has become one of the most competitive races of the week and this race is no different and should allow for a little bit of a price. Headsaregonna Turn (6) only missed defeating Palmers Pride last time out by a long neck and had to come first over then three wide turning for home to do it. He gets a little bit tougher post tonight, but has been able to come from off the pace before, look for him to be a good price. Palmer’s Pride (8) gets assigned post eight this week after winning by a neck last time out. He has won three of his last four starts for trainer Jessica Roegner. Mikey Hanover (4) got trounced in his last start tiring badly at the end of the mile. He draws better this week and is looking for a better trip.
Race 11: Archetto Hanover (1) is dropping down in class this week after facing some stiff competition and draws the rail. He has defeated tougher than these before and should be carefully watched tonight. Windsun Stetson (7) got a better trip against this class than the line shows on paper as he only lost by three and ¾ lengths. Tonight he draws tough again, but has the speed to be close to the pace. Dashpedia (6) was holding his own against Open ranks and then had to drop to the Open II class, this is a very competitive race for him, but he could be close to the pace.
