We’re heading to Orange County, California, today on Danonymous Racing, with a nine-race thoroughbred program. The headliner today is the Barretts Stakes, for two-year-olds. It’s closing weekend at Los Alamitos; next weekend kicks off the Santa Anita fall meet.
To help you out with all the action, we’re happy to have Robert Criscola (@itsgood2beking) providing FREE picks & analysis of the card! Robert did an excellent job with his thoughts on Del Mar racing on Saturdays throughout the meet. Be sure to give him a follow on twitter!
Take it away, Robert!
The final Saturday card of the Los Al September meet is upon us. Headlining the nine-race program is the Barretts Juvenile Stakes. The action starts at 5 p.m. Eastern; let’s get right to it.
Race 1: 1-2-3
#1 UH OH BABY drops in with state-breds after running a respectable third to open company maiden claimers at Del Mar; should boss these. #2 CAMPAIGNER may benefit from scaling back a 1/16th; consider. #3 BUCK DUANE gets Roman aboard despite a mediocre worktab; the dam has produced five winners from five starters.
Race 2: 4-5-3
#4 FLASH HENRY wheels back quickly after breaking his maiden here on Sept. 10; Bonde’s been lethal at the meet (7-4-0-1). #5 SALIENT showed decent ability on dirt last year and drops in class today; main danger. #3 BUCKY GOLDSTEIN was last seen dominating a group of maidens at Del Mar; Baze climbs aboard.
Race 3: 6-5-2
#6 BOW AND ARROW goes first off the claim for O’Neill (20%) and gets Roman on; the one to beat. #5 SPEND IT stretches out while dropping to a new low; consider. #2 COLONIAL POWER is 0-for-10 lifetime but can land a share vs. these.
Race 4: 5-7-4
#5 GOLDEN ATLANTIC easily dispatched a group of $8k claimers earlier in the meet; threat to wire these right back. #7 LUCKARACK, making his third start of the meet, drops back to the level at which he won two starts ago; logical alternative. #4 MADELYN’S WILD MAX may appreciate the drop in class; she was third vs. tougher at the July Los Al meeting. #1 BOUND FOR HEAVEN moves up if there’s a scratch.
Race 5: 1-2-3
#1 MAJESTIC JOURNEY lures Gonzalez as he drops to the basement; he made up plenty of ground in his last start to finish respectably at Del Mar in his latest. #2 HARD ARCH was about a length behind the top pick when they faced off at Del Mar but gets Roman aboard today. However, he’s already had 10 chances to win, as opposed to MAJESTIC JOURNEY’s four. #3 HARROVIAN coughed up the lead at odds-on here two weeks ago but lures Baze.
Race 6: 6-1-2
#6 ALLEY BOSS tries a new low after running second vs. slightly better earlier in the meet. Pearson’s been doing well with limited stock at Los Al (3-for-8) and retains Pedroza (23% at the meet). #1 PRAY HARD hasn’t been competitive in his last few but gets a drop in class and lures Roman; respect. #2 NAGYS PIGGY BANK is the best of the rest.
Race 7: 2-6-7
#2 BRIDAL ARCH’s last two speed figures stand out by comparison; top preference. #6 QUEEN BEE TO YOU hasn’t missed the board in her last five dirt starts; consider. #7 TAP ON A STAR’s maiden win was a vast improvement on the rest of her form; wild card facing winners on two weeks’ notice.
Race 8: 3-7-5
The Barretts Juvenile Stakes
#3 RUN AWAY was outclassed in the Grade I Del Mar Futurity last time out but finds a cozy spot to rebound in; most likely winner on the card. #7 SMOKEM owns back-to-back runner-up finishes in listed stakes; a minor award looks to be in the cards once more. #5 HERE IS HAPPY was the only one making up ground late when he pulled off a 32-1 shocker in his debut; can roll late for a piece of this one.
Race 9: 3-9-1
#3 SAUSALITO SUNSET is practically being given away by Koriner in her first start since November but Talamo sees fit to climb aboard; the last work was strong. #9 MAGICAL LUCY and #1 FORTHE LOVOF PATTY, separated by little more than a length when they met in a similar race here on Sept. 14, return as logical exotics candidates.
