It’s closing weekend at Los Alamitos, and they’re going out with a bang! They’ve got a 10-race card on Saturday, headlined by the King Glorious Stakes. First post time is 12:00 PM PST.
To help you out with all the action, we’re happy to have Robert Criscola (@itsgood2beking) providing FREE picks & analysis of the card! Robert’s been a Southern California handicapper on Danonymous Racing for a while now; be sure to give him a follow on twitter.
We have 10 races to go over from the final Saturday card of the Los Al December meet. The $100,000 King Glorious Stakes for two-year-olds is the feature. Let’s dive in!
Race 1: 7-1-5
#7 CLIFTON BEACH may finally break through in career start number 15. His speed figures stand out and he’s simply facing fewer rivals than he has of late. Someone will need to take a step forward to beat him. #1 JAY MAKES US LAUGH’s last can be forgiven as he dueled through quick fractions and tired badly off an extended layoff. If he runs back to his two-back effort he’d be dangerous but that’s far from guaranteed. #5 SPOKANE EAGLE gets the kitchen sink thrown at him for his first start in over a year; he adds Lasix, runs as a first-time gelding and switches to meeting-leading jockey Roman while dropping precipitously in class.
Race 2: 5-2-3-6
#5 CELEBRATE LIFE was off slowly in his debut but took the lead and held on to graduate at 37-1 after setting fast fractions. Roman lands elsewhere but this horse is a threat to improve second-out and take this. #2 EXECUTIVE CAT, Roman’s pick, wired a field at Fresno in his latest dirt attempt; consider. #3 MIRROR IMAGE has gone off form in his last couple but has some dirt races from the summer that put him in the hunt at square odds. #6 BEANTOWN BOYS has the lengthy Los Al stretch to work with as he attempts to reel in the frontrunners here; not impossible.
Race 3: 4-1-5
#4 STOLE MY ‘ART makes sense on the trainer angle (Vallejo is 9-4-2-2 at the meet) as she takes a class drop and cuts back. #1 SALLYANA was a well-beaten second vs. similar earlier in the meet but merits respect on speed figures. #5 CHEESE may have more of a late impact than last time if kept closer early; note the jockey change to Bednar.
Race 4: 1-7-4
#1 LEAGUE OF SHADOWS went too fast early in his debut and tired late; learning experience could help put him over the top here. #7 CONFIRMED plummets in class for Eurton after showing little in three starts; watch the board for a clue. #4 SOFT TRIP may have needed his last off the bench; eligible for a share if he runs to his two-back effort.
Race 5: 9-7-1-2
#9 AIRFOIL seems to be the class of the bunch and goes first off the claim for Clark (39%); looks poised for at least his sixth straight exacta finish. #7 CAT FROM IRAQ has won four of his last five at various levels and distances over this course; consider. #1 OMDURMAN was third vs. slightly tougher here two weeks ago; another win threat in this wide-open heat. #2 PRIVATE PROSPECT moves up if there’s a scratch.
Race 6: 2-6-8-9
#2 COPPER COWGIRL finds a soft spot to drop down to and drilled a bullet for this; top preference. #6 TWO TIMING LUCY exits a freshening after taking part in a suicidal duel at Del Mar last August; the one to catch. #8 IF ONLY IDA and #9 GO SMILEY GO hit the board in their only career starts; minor shares possible.
Race 7: 3-5-6
#3 SLASHER wheels back quickly and keeps Roman off a solid win vs. similar; tepid choice. #5 SUMMER BUDDHA scales back in distance and adds blinkers; will be playing “catch me if you can.” #6 CHROMIUM crushed slightly lesser earlier in the meet.
Race 8: 10-2-6
#10 INFORMALITY lures Roman and gets blinkers on as he drops in class and cuts back; lots to like. #2 RICK’S DREAM also cuts back and gets class relief; consider. #6 MR. LOUIS goes for very live connections in Sadler and Talamo.
Race 9: 6-2-7-4
The King Glorious Stakes
#6 BOOKIES LUCK towers over these from a class and speed figure perspective; short price looms. #2 INTIMIDATE lures Smith off a nightmarish journey at Golden Gate; needs to prove himself on dirt going longer today. #7 CAMPAIGNER didn’t have the cleanest trip in the Golden State Juvenile; should be closer early. #4 LUCKY ROMANO moves up if there’s a scratch.
Race 10: 6-3-2
#6 KALEIDOSCOPE KID shows some fast works for his debut and is out of a mare that’s produced four winners from as many starters. He would not be a surprise in this low-level nightcap. #3 DARE TO ENTER is logical as he gets class relief; nearly graduated over this course in his September debut. #2 SWALLOWS INN GAL was a game second vs. fillies two weeks ago; there have been worse 15-1 shots.
