Jockey Journals – Kayla Stra

After an accomplished career as a jockey in Australia, Kayla Stra has spent the past five years riding in California. She took some time off last year, giving birth to her first child, Brys, in November.

We asked her to write a short journal about what it was like last month, when she won her first race since coming back.

Life has been very busy so far this year! Being in the winners circle for the first time since Mother’s Day last year was nice. 🙂

I never get too excited because I am always trying to keep a balance in my life with everything; including emotions, my family and work life, then the me time too!

I am frequently looked up to by young children and have always told them that it’s okay if you don’t win. It’s how you come to appreciate winning by losing sometimes!

I was very happy to be back in the winners’ circle so soon after returning though; truly grateful! That one was definitely for all my supporters, family, friends and fans! And the newest, cutest and happiest baby that I know, Brys Baldwin Headley. 🙂

  1. Good to see you back, Kayla! And Brys is adorable!! 🙂 Good luck getting back to the winner’s circle again soon.

    1. Yeah, would’ve been nice if he got off the rail and finished a little stronger. All in all, he ran a nice race though.
