Gulfstream Park’s got a thirteen-race bonanza of a card on Sunday, headlined by the Melody of Colors Stakes. The first post time will be at 12:00 PM EST. We’re happy to have Paul Hundley (@vapaul67) providing FREE picks & analysis of the program. Be sure to give Paul a follow on twitter; he’s handicapped Florida and New York racing in the past, and he’ll be handicapping Gulfstream every Sunday of the meet.
Good luck to everyone playing along out there!
Hello once again and welcome to another Sunday at Gulfstream. Post time is inevitably after Noon EST. We’ve been lukewarm the last 3 Sundays, showing a flat bet profit each of the last 3 weeks with our top picks. Let’s dig in to today’s card.
8-GIBSON GIRL has been beaten 77 lengths in 3 career starts, not exactly an inspiration of confidence, but drops from MSW ranks for Bill Mott after vying for the lead in turf debut at Tampa before weakening. Mott is 22% MSW to MC and has main guy Jose Ortiz aboard. The Dam, RAHY DOLLY, has 3 turf winners from previous runners.
RACE 2: 5-1-2
A weak race even by this level’s standards. 5-THREAT sinks to lowest level of career and should find the class relief appealing to her early speed. Appears to be fastest early based on pace figures.
RACE 3: 5-2-7
5-SWEET INSPIRATION goes turf to dirt and drops to the bottom of MC ranks today. Trainer Kevin Attard is 21% second off the layoff. 2-Sounds Like Music goes route to Sprint for De la cerda but has been off since October.
RACE 4: 2-1-4
2-IZZY THE WARRIOR did not have a good showing last out, but ran very well vs $30K beaten Claimers before that. Romans 35% dropping multiple class levels. Saez rides.
RACE 5: 4-8-9
4-RIDER OF THE BLUE has been beaten 73 lengths in 3 turf tries, now they switch over to dirt for Marcus Vitali, who is 22% with the surface switch and 20% second off the claim.
RACE 6: 2-3-6
2-FAST EDDIE was in a bad spot last out in post 11 in a 7 1/2 furlong turf event, now cuts back and gets a decent post for this Sprint. Irad Ortiz rides.
RACE 7: 5–4-2
5-COQUIVACOA almost went gate to wire last out vs 10k OC’s, should have the speed to finish the job today. 7-3-3-0 at GP, 8-4-2-0 at distance.
RACE 8: 4-6-2
4-LEGEND EMMA is a FTS for Pletcher (23%) whose sire is 15% FTS and the Dam has 3 turf winners already.
RACE 9: 5-6-2
5-MO SMART is another FTS for Pletcher out of Uncle Mo(18% FTS) None of the experienced runners inspire confidence today.
RACE 10: 8-5-11
8-MR. PAPILLON just missed at this level last out and now gets Jose Ortiz for Gilberto Zerpa. Should be rolling late.
RACE 11: 1-3-2
This certainly could be a big day for Pletcher in tbe win department, as he holds the cards in here seemingly. However, 1-MRS RAMONA G ran very well in debut breaking maiden, and after trying a turf route and off the turf event, could be ready to surprise heavy favorite 3-March X Press.
RACE 12: 11-8-10
11-PASSPORT TO CHAOS has been competitive at this level in last 2 races, not crazy about the post but should be right there at the end. Should have ample pace to close in to.
RACE 13: 7-9-5-2
