Free Picks & Analysis — Who Do Ya Like?
Wednesday, February 8, 2017
On this Wednesday at Danonymous, we’ve got FREE Turf Paradise picks & analysis from Rob MacLennan (@RobMacASD)!
Rob served as the track handicapper at Assiniboia Downs, near Winnipeg, over the summer, and we’re happy to have him as part of the Danonymous Racing crew. He’ll be providing analysis of the racing at Turf Paradise all winter long.
Take it away, Rob!
Race 1: Selection: #4 Lazy Daisy May (2/1 ML). I think I pick her every time she runs but now she gets to drop to open $3200 without a real top contender. This is by far the cheapest she has been in since last 2015. If she can sit just off, this drop combined with saving more ground should make her very tough.
$0.50 Pick 4 4/1,4,5,8/2,3,4,7/1,3,6 $24
Race 2: Selection: #8 Forty Proof (5/2/ ML). Got to root for my Manitoba bred here, was an easy winner last time against a soft bunch, should sit just off the pace and I think he has the talent to win this race. I did use 3 others in the Pick 4. Oh Brother Go is a logical play as a closer, First to Fight is a cool longshot for me stretching back out after a failed route attempt and he gets a top rider, Union Legend also stretches out for a good barn and could make the lead.
Race 3: Selection: #2 Surfliner (8/1 ML). Did not like this race, had to use four in the pick 4 sequence. Putting Surfliner on top because he might be the only one running late, he’s had time off and I wish he had more works but he could do some damage at a price.
Race 4: Selection: #1 Ino Thepath (6/5 ML). A perfect spot for this horse to drop into. He’s got the back class, should be the speed and this is by far the easiest he’s seen in a very long time. Not much of a price but he’s hard to pick against.
Race 5: Selection: #10 Woodlandsway (10/1 ML). This mare is fast and now that she drops, has had some time off, comes in with a pair of bullets and now is drawn outside where she won’t get pressured (she wears a big extended cup blinker for a reason). If she can clear she could be very tough to catch and the freshening shouldn’t hurt her either.
$0.50 Pick 4 Play 4,10/1,3,6,8,9/5,6/2,5,6 $30
Race 6: Selection: #1 Shock the Clock (6/1 ML). From the ten post last time Shock the Clock had to lose ground before coming with a run. Hopefully he can save ground from the rail and rally like he did on December 13th. Throw out his two dirt races and his form fits right in here.
Race 7: Selection: #6 Cougar Country (7/2 ML). This gelding just couldn’t get up last time going 870 yards, now with tons of speed signed on here Cougar Country can sit right in behind and rally. He was only beaten a ½ length by Fire the Trainer and he has changed barns since then. He had to try to run down a loose leader last time and he won’t face that problem today.
Race 8: Selection: #2 Little Deal (9/2 ML). This Idaho bred has run twice at recognized tracks with a 5th in a 30k stake his last start back in 2015. He comes in for a barn that has success with a number of works, draws the services of a top veteran pilot and he did show a little bit of speed, albeit a long time ago. The tote board will tell the tale on him, but he’s worth the shot for me. This race has some strange horses as the favorite Storm Quest off a second in a maiden 5,000 event was entered in a 30k open sprint stake for reasons that are beyond me, and Jen Lors Legacy showed good speed for the leading QH trainer in Arizona before blowing the turn and now goes from a no name apprentice to one of the most aggressive riders and the barns go to rider, be careful, I wouldn’t want to let him beat me either.
