We’re back at Saratoga with FREE PICKS before the big weekend of racing ahead, which culminates with the Travers on Saturday. Note that I didn’t include analysis for many races due to time constraints.
Race 8: #1 Mariel N Kathy (5-1 ML)
Race 5: #3 Sam’s Buck (12-1 ML)
INDIVIDUAL RACE SELECTIONS
Race 1: Hurdles race, no selections
Race 2: 2-6-3
Race 3: 4-5-3
Small field for this $100K stakes race but it’s loaded with speed. I think that sets up best for #4 Easter Gift. He’s drawn away against much easier in PA but seeing Rosario tabbed adds confidence in this horse, who has just taken off since joining the Brown barn. Steady work tab is another positive sign, as is the :47 and 4 last week.
Race 4: 1-4-5-2
Race 5: 3-7-2-5
Going to use several bombs in this wide open $20K turf race. I don’t love the horses dropping in and my eye was drawn to a horse who ran a deceptively good race last out, #3 Sam’s Buck. This horse broke poorly, was rushed, got pinned in for a while and then got moved too early, flattening out late to finish mid-pack at this level. There seem to be a few speedsters in here who he can sit behind today and with a cleaner trip and more well timed move, this horse has a serious shot at 12-1 on the ML. #2 Horvat Clan is going to be bet down considerably on the reclaim for Maker with Rosario up but the horse is very beatable. His last win was on the poly in April facing non-winners of two, when Rosario-Maker-Ramseys were winning everything. Would play against.
Race 6: 8-2-1A-3
Love #8 Z Dager here. Tons of speed in this race to set up for this one, who generally likes to sit off of it. As mentioned, don’t love droppers like this, especially one who ran at $65 o/c with no tag and now appears at $35K. But this is a Zayat horse and Jose Ortiz gets the call. Young jock has won with two of the three mounts he’s had for Asmussen. #1A Cheyenne Nation will also be tough from off the pace. Expect him to be coming late with #2 Irish Lion, at a price.
Race 7: 1-3-7-5
Race 8: 1-7-8-2
Going to go with #1 Mariel N Kathy here (5-1 ML) on the prime speed angle, going long on the turf and likely to face minimal pressure up front. Gets a jock upgrade, in my book at least, to Junior (24% w/Schettino) and I think she steals this one on the lead. At the very least, price should be square enough for a healthy WP play.
Race 9: 2-6-1-3
As usual, I handicap with value in mind and sometimes list longer shots on top. If there’s a fave you like, feel free to include the horse in combinations with our listed selections. Good luck!
