We’re California-bound on Danonymous Racing, for we’ve got Sebastian Piscuskas (@SeaBass912) providing FREE picks & analysis!
Sebastian has been one of our featured West Coast handicappers for some time now. You can find his picks for Southern California racing every Friday on Danonymous Racing. We thank Sebastian for sharing his thoughts today. We encourage you to give him a follow on Twitter when you get a chance. Take it away, Sebastian…
Race 1: #6 Paradise has quit in all three career races but that doesn’t necessarily tell the whole story. In two of her losses she was drawn towards the inside and was dueled into submission. Her best career effort was on debut when she was drawn in the middle of the field and was beaten by a better horse. She’s drawn the far outside and gets a positive jock switch to apprentice Fuentes. #5 La Petitie Fleur is the unknown commodity of the group. She has two works at Los Al that jump off the page and catches a very weak field on debut.
Race 2: #2 Let Me Flatter You was home and hosed down earlier this month but came up just short. The track was screwy that day and the front end was not the place to be. Her loss looks much better with that bit of information thrown into the mix.
Race 3: #1 Too Fast to Pass was tremendous on New Year’s Day when he blitzed a salty group of 32k claimers in 1:08 flat. His last was the race of his life so a “bounce” could very well come into play, and likely will. With that said anything close to that last race will be tough to deny. #5 W. Giles is easily one of my favorite horses on the grounds. Since being claimed by Mulhall he has three wins and a third. He’s been off since March of last year and could need a race and perhaps softer but I will always root for this gelded son of Swiss Yodeler. 5-1
Race 4: #6 Miss Bliss just ran in place in her last start but she could have hated the off going. The Moger trainee should sit a comfortable trip stalking the rail horse and will be the one to run down at the top of the stretch.
Race 5: #5 City Steel chased a Lone-F runner all around the track without making much impression in his last start. He drops to 25k off that solid effort, the tag he was claimed for in September. Talamo figured him out last time and will have him in position to win once again. #7 Carlsbad Mountain is a fighter on the front end and when he’s on his game he’s tough to get by in the lane. He’s been off for three months but after such a grueling campaign last season he will probably fire fresh.
Race 6: #7 Aikau ran much better than his last running line would indicate. Breaking from post 12 he ranged up into contention at the top of the lane before giving way in the stretch. He drops a notch in class and is drawn quite well given his tactical speed. #4 Outthink’em is an iron horse, starting at least 18 times in the last two seasons. He’s running third off the layoff, off of a powerful win, and is well drawn today. I’m not sure how this son of Bushwacker keeps finding the wire but he does.
Race 7: #4 Mercer Island makes his West Coast and dirt debut after spending the majority of his career in the Greater Toronto area. The gelded son of Tapit makes his first start in the Miller barn, who is striking at a cool 28% with his first-time acquisitions. #5 St. Reno is as hard trying as they come. He lays his body down and gives everything he can in the lane. The 5YO son of Awesome Again was DQ’ed in his last start on the grounds of his rider striking another horse in the face with his whip. St. Reno has solid tactical speed but will likely take back and make one run.
Race 8: #9 Long Game has really improved routing and will likely move forward after a two-month respite. Elliott has been as solid as they come and knows how this guy ticks. #6 Kenzou’s Rhythm isn’t the best finisher in the world as he just seems to hang every time. Lucky for him he’s caught a very weak maiden 30k field and could simply be better than these.
