Take it away, Rob…
Happy Memorial Day to All. Monmouth caps off its Holiday weekend of racing with a good nine race card with some good opportunities.
#6 I’m A Factum
#1 Smooth Talkin Tom
I’m a Factum gets hot riding Lebron aboard faded after setting a moderate pace last time out but projects to get a good set up in front of a bunch of horses who look destined for the lead here. Smooth Talkin Tom will be flying late if the pace setup sets up as it looks on paper.
#1 Paddington Express
Paddington Express is 1-1-1 out of 8 tries at the shore and ran into a buzz saw in a very sharp Navarro speedster last time out. This field is considerably weaker and should allow him to stay much closer to the pace this time around. Willard Thompson has his horses firing early on in the meet (2 wins, 3 seconds so far in 4 racing days) and so Untamed must be taken seriously based on his effort here last August. Laghubaar should only entice those playing in tris but he could suck up 3rd for a trainer who has seen his struggles in 2016 (0-27)
#10 Urban Burn
#2 Not So Quiet Man
This field looks absolutely loaded with front end speed. Urban Burn was bet first time, had an excuse, and now goes first time turf out of City Zip. Not So Quiet Man retained the services of JJ Castellano in the final two starts last year, and so someone figured this guy had some talent. Now switches to the lawn out of Freud which makes almost too much sense, a decent value play.
#2 Total Joint
#5 Mongolian Chrome
Total Joint certainly looks like the class of the field, as he raced in the Long Branch here just last summer, where he ran a respectable 3rd. In 3 tries at the shore has never finished out of the money and gets Juarez in the saddle. Mongolian Chrome was making some late headway going shorter last time out, and won at a mile 3 back. Tapkee goes for the potent Ness barn and has an off the turf effort that could definitely make some noise in here.
#6 Money Game
#1 Boheme De Lavi
#2 House Money
Patrick Marrotta is one of those trainer at Monmouth that is super under the radar, and while he doesn’t have many horses, who usually ships in from Penn or Parx, or claims on here or there and returns with a score at a decent price. Money Game certainly has a pace edge on his other two rivals in here, and I’m hoping that could make the difference. Boheme De Lavi was a good 2nd against a solid J-Bred in Bustin Out last time, and certainly makes sense. House Money is coming in off quite a long layoff, but looks to have some good late speed should a duel emerge.
#5 Shipwreck Cove
#9 Wildly Good Lookin
Shipwreck Cove looks too fast for these in here. Wildly Good Lookin has shown speed going further, and now cuts back and could be heard from late.
#3 Uncle Vinny
#1 El Charro
Chovanes certainly looks like a player as he is dropping out of the Florida Derby in which he really had no shot, but he drew away nicely to take an open maiden 50 going a mile in his prior effort, and a wire to wire effort is really not out of the question. Uncle Vinny has certainly seen some good ones in his prior efforts (Brody’s Cause, Ralis) and I actually think the stretch out to a mile and 70 will really benefit this one as the sprinting efforts have been rather dull. El Charro is another with decent 3 year old pedigree in his racing lines and was coming in nicely in his first shore try last time out, note that he does lose Bravo to Uncle Vinny.
#3 Amblin Easy
#2 More Than a Party
#1 Love Came to Town
Amblin Easy projects to get a beautiful set up behind Bustin Out and More Than a Party, two horses who love to gun early. More Than a Party certainly enjoys Monmouth and if able to shake loose, could be a major factor in the lane. Love Came to Town has run her best races at Monmouth, and is back in J-Bred company here, do not discount based on those recent efforts.
Race 9: Too many scratches…
Good luck today.
