RACE 1- Maiden $52,000, 5F Turf, 2YO Fillies
# 2 True Testament ML 3/1
# 4 Moon Kitty ML 7/2
# 9 Hot in the City ML 5/1
#2 True Testament has the most experience in this field and has done the best when it comes to results over turf. While cutting back from 6 1/2F on the downhill turf to 5F, she should be able to improve and use her early speed to her advantage. #4 Moon Kitty was the only the first time starter to really catch my eye in this field. She has had back to back impressive workouts. She also has the best trainer and jockey in California right now with Peter Miller alone at 30% with 2YOS. #9 Hot in the City has trained the best out of all the first time starters. She is bred very well and was purchased as a yearling for $160,000. Terry Knight is also 38% out of the 8 starts with 2YOs bringing in an ROI of $6.85.
RACE 2-MCL $20,000, 3YO&UP, 1M 1/16th
# 7 Adir ML 7/2
# 2 California Silver ML 9/5
# 1 Country Road ML 2/1
#7 Adir has a lot of experience over the distance and some okay figures. He has trained consistently at 5F and 6F and returned impressive numbers. Look for improvement today. #2 California Silver is stretching out today for the first time on dirt. He also is dropping in from a MCL $50,000 race. I see improvement with the drop in class and stretch out. #1 Country Road was coming off a 5 month layoff and raced his first race over dirt and ran a lackluster performance last time out. However it was a sprint. He does stretch out today and is 2nd off the layoff for improvement.
RACE 3- Maiden $52,000, 2YO 1M Turf
# 2 Ice Kat ML 3/1
# 7 Cut ML 6/1
# 9 Lucky Bode ML 15/1
#2 Ice Kat nearly won last time out at a longer distance early in this meet, so the cut back should benefit him today. He also earned a 98 speed figure in that race which is impressive. #7 Cut ran pretty well in his turf debut. I think he should improve with that experience under his belt. #9 Lucky Bode has improved each time he ran on turf. He clearly likes the grass and should improve again here today.
RACE 4- AOC $20,000, F&M 3YO&UP 6 1/2 F
# 4 Late ‘n left ML 5/2
# 3 Reckless Charm ML 4/1
# 6 Queenofhercastle ML 7/2
#4 Late ‘n Left won last time out in incredible fashion. She is coming in off a claim with a trainer not too hot with first off the claim. However with the add of Irad Ortiz JR., and the quality of her last start, I think she continues her winning ways. #3 Reckless Charm is a filly who likes to sit mid pack and press the speed. She ran 2nd against similar last time out so I think she improves this time out. #6 Queenofhercastle won last time out against weaker. She is going to need to improve in order to have a shot. However her early speed should help.
RACE 5- AOC $40,000, F&M 3YO&UP, 1M 1/8 Turf $53,000
# 4 Peach Cove ML 6/1
# 5 Girl Downstairs ML 12/1
# 12 Lady Pamela ML 7/2
#4 Peach Cove was one of my top picks in her last start and she ran 2nd at 11/1. She brought home a 102 speed figure, and was caught late. She is taking blinkers off this race and is adding Mike Smith. I think she is much the horse to beat in this field. #5 Girl Downstairs is looking for her 4th win in 5 starts. She will be jumping up in class but I don’t think that will be much a problem. Her figures and variety of run style, gives her some advantages at a big price. #12 Lady Pamela is a closer and won her turf debut in impressive fashion. I see a good impressive career in front of her, and i think this race today shows that.
RACE 6- Beaten Claiming $16K-$14K, F&M 3YO&UP, 5 1/2 furlongs turf
# 4 Tuscany Beauty ML 9/5
# 3 Buzzer Beater ML 7/2
# 7 Cecile’s Diamond ML 6/1
#4 Tuscany Beauty is much the class of this field. She is coming off a bullet work at 6F so she is wired up in my opinion. Look for her to get back to her winning ways today. #3 Buzzer Beater is one of the lone closers in this race which should benefit her. With good starts at Del Mar, I look for her to improve. I think the distance is a little short for her but we will see. #7 Cecile’s Diamond is coming off her maiden win. She is also coming into this race 2nd off the long layoff. This means she can still improve. Solid price for a horse with a solid shot.
RACE 7- Matriarch Stakes (G1) $300K, F&M 3YO&UP 1M Turf
# 12 Miss Temple City ML 3/1
# 11 Time and Motion ML 5/1
# 4 Zindaya ML 9/2
#12 Miss Temple City had no shot in the BC Mile on Breeders Cup day but in that race she earned a lot of experience and still held her own. With the drop in class, I think she bounces back today and is the horse to beat.#11 Time and Motion is very accomplished. She is not as fast as Miss Temple City but just as classy and proven during her career. She is coming off a bullet work over the turf and a G1 Win. I think she has a real shot today. #4 Zindaya has been in my radar for a while now. With the best Jockey/Trainer combination on turf in the country, I think she improves with the step up in class today.
RACE 8- AOC $62,500, 3YO&UP 6 1/2 F $55K
# 5 Jazzy Times ML 5/2
# 1 St. Joe Bay ML 4/1
# 2 Who’s Out ML 3/1
#5 Jazzy Times was my top pick in the Damascus but sadly drifted out in the stretch and finished 2nd. But 5 out his 6 races have brought home speed figures of over a 100 so he should be able to bounce back today. #1 St. Joe Bay seems to like the dirt more than the turf and is on dirt today. He seems to always find ways to fall short but hopefully can win today. #2 Who’s Out is a horse who I think can improve today. Irad is aboard on this horse for some reason, and that is why I’m intrigued.
RACE 9- Maiden $52,000 2YO 1M Turf
# 1 Kona Dreams ML 5/2
# 4 Popular Kid ML 20/1
# 6 Taste Maker ML 8/1
#1 Kona Dreams is much the best horse in this field. The Speed Figures, and finishes at this distance win this race almost every time. #4 Popular Kid is a live longshot to me. His last start over turf was two back and he had a slow start and still closed for 3rd at 89-1. He brought home a 93 figure and should improve knowing he is a 2yo. #6 Taste Maker is a first time starter. He has good works and a good jockey/trainer combination. He is bred for turf so if he manages a clean trip, he has a shot.
