On Saturday, we’re back at Belmont with FREE PICKS and ANALYSIS from returning guest handicapper, Billy Blake (@BillyBlake22).
Billy is a lifelong racing fan who maintains his own racing blog at BillsTwoCents.com. We thank him for sharing his selections and wish you the best of luck if you’re playing along!
Race 1: 6-3-9-1
Macagone gets rider change to Castellano, comes into this race off a bullet work, and has experience on a good turf course. Could be loose on the lead in here.
Dirt Pick: #10 Royal Posse
Race 2: 2-3-7-6
Dickens was a little green in the stretch last out, and Roy Lerman adds blinkers in this spot. One of few horses in here who has caught a wet track in the past.
Race 3: 2-6-4-7
Tumminia reunites with Joe Bravo, tried to close into average pace in debut. May be more forwardly placed in what appears to be paceless race. 8-1 morning line fair price.
Dirt Pick: #1 Accord
Race 4: 6-5-2-1
Who wants this grueling distance? Village Warrior looks to make it three in a row and has hit the board in all four tries on a wet track, including two wins.
Race 5: 1-6-11-8
Pep the Champ back in the same condition on the turnback. Last two efforts coming on a good turf course. Concerned with rail, but there is speed to his outside setting it up.
Dirt Pick: #4 Grandpa Len
Race 6: 2-1-6-4
Cavorting might be the best in this bunch going forward as a three-year-old, but Wonder Gal will offer better value in the Frizette. Not anointing Wonder Gal the next Sweet Reason just yet for Leah Gyarmati, but she’s worth a look at 6-1 off her trip in the Adirondack. Condo Commando has to be in the mix based on Spinaway romp in the slop.
Race 7: 3-4-9-5
In this wide open allowance, landed on Cashmere Cat, who has one win and one second in two starts on a good turf course. Los Borrachos should have a say in this race, regardless of surface.
Dirt Pick: #4 Los Borrachos
Race 8: 6-4-3-1
Daredevil is well posted plus track conditions look the same as his debut. Castellano should rate him on the stretch out to one mile. Holy Boss may be the forgotten horse in here because he comes in from out of town. Keep an eye on I Spent It in paddock, whose Hopeful can be dismissed after looking uncomfortable before the race.
Race 9: 1-9-4-5
Hoping this one stays in the turf. Tourist will be up front, but Smooth Daddy could have a say early. And that leads me to Ring Weekend. His last two races show he clearly belongs on the grass.
Dirt Pick: #3 Blacktype
Race 10: 1-4-3-7
Will today be the day? Won’t be shocking if Groupthink wins, but don’t have it in me to put the money burner on top. It does help that his lone win came on a sloppy track. Leroy Jr. has been frustrating for chalk players himself, but giving him slight nod getting back to dirt.
Race 11: 8-3-4-(2/2b)
Boldlee will get to run outside of horses after troubled trip last out. Positive sign to see Lezcano stick around to ride Memories of Peter.
Dirt Picks: 5-11-14-12
