Today, we’re headed out to Meydan where we’ve got FREE PICKS & ANALYSIS from our international handicapper Stephen Wong (@sw064351).
We thank Stephen for sharing his thoughts today. Be sure to give him a follow on Twitter when you get a moment.
Race 7: No. 3 Al Saham
DISTRICT ONE VILLAS
Race 1: 3-8-6
ETIJAAH was entitled to weaken last time at Jebel Ali after chasing the leaders a long way out. Expect him to be near peak fitness fourth-up. STREET ACT was one paced behind Mizbah on New Year’s Day and the drop back in distance suits. ENERY next one in.
Race 2: 1-4-2
STEPPER POINT resumes after finishing his last campaign with an unplaced run in the Prix de L’Abbaye. His best form is on top of the ground and he did beat Nunthorpe Stakes winner Mecca’s Angel last preparation. Rates highly. GREEN DOOR and BANAADEER the dangers.
Race 3: 4-2-3
SPECIAL FIGHTER made little impression a fortnight ago in the Al Maktoum Challenge on the turf but he was most impressive in his start prior to that when scoring convincingly in Listed grade. Expect him to measure up here. LET’S GO makes his Meydan debut while STORM BELT should strip fitter second-up.
AL FAHIDI FORT
Race 4: 7-1-4
SAFETY CHECK flies fresh and is seeking to go back-to-back in this race. He was unbeaten here in three starts last carnival and is the one to beat. HARRY’S SON has class on his side and although MASTERMIND rises sharply in grade, he is racing well.
DISTRICT ONE TROPHY
Race 5: 3-2-1
There was plenty of merit to ELHAAME’s fourth in the Lexus Stakes at Flemington as he was gaining late despite the unsuitably long distance and soft ground. SANSHAAWES and ELLEVAL both resumed with sound efforts in a 95+ handicap earlier this month and should be thereabouts again.
DISTRICT ONE MANSIONS
Race 6: 8-13-5
SECRET BRIEF stayed on well on good to soft ground behind Energia Davos in the Stella Artois Handicap at Ascot and will be hard to hold out provided he handles the conditions here. GREATEST JOURNEY had excellent all weather form in the UK. ROYAL NAVY SHIP can also go close.
MOHAMMED BIN RASHID AL MAKTOUM CITY
Race 7: 3-10-6
AL SAHAM won this race last year before rallying to just miss against tougher three weeks later. The lightly raced gelding hasn’t raced since but he has a decent fresh record. TANNAAF was impressive when he got up in the Qatar Derby despite waiting for a run and should be kept safe.
