Today’s another twilight card at Del Mar, with a first post time of 4:00 PM PDT. We’ve got Sebastian Piscuskas (@SeaBass912) providing FREE picks & analysis of the late pick 4 sequence.
Sebastian’s one of our west coast mainstays on the site, and we’re happy to have him covering the action at Del Mar this meet. Don’t forget to give him a follow on twitter.
Take it away, Sebastian!
Race 5: #4 Elegant Street ran two quality turf races at SA before a brief freshening and a step up in class. The Street Sense horse gets better with racing and ran a credible race in his most recent start on dirt at Los Al. He appears to be sitting on an effort for Bobby Wayne Grayson. #6 Beaumarchais missed the break from the rail in his first start of the year and rushed up wide into contention before throwing in the towel. The Big Drama gelding has drilled fairly for this and he owns a very game effort over this very surface last Summer. The likely pacesetter. #5 Red King makes his first start for Cerin off the barn change. The English Channel colt broke his maiden at Gulfstream Park and most recently did very little running in an entry level allowance at 11f at Churchill Downs. Cerin started the meet hot and looks to continue keep things going with the invader. #3 Fishel looks like a horse for course. A lateral move regarding the barn change. The Temple City horse has worked well at Los Al.
Race 6: #5 Invasion Looming has overachieved at every level to date, despite not winning. Three starts ago he was the only one running against a runaway winner. Two back the Exchange Rate gelding fought over a Wet Fast oval to be beaten only a length, earning a big number. Last time he was just flat. His PP’s make him seem like a career maiden, but when you look at this horse there isn’t a gamer maiden 40k claimer on the grounds. Expect him to win, get claimed, and win at the starter 40k level next time out. I’m serious. This horse is a total runner against a field that is lacking another horse like him (And I haven’t even mentioned the substantial class drop).
Race 7: If you only have time to watch one replay for this card please watch #1 Eckersley’s last race. I’m still sick over it. Anyway, the replay speaks for itself. This horse was loaded and was ridden into a spot that didn’t exist. Note the jock change. 6-1 simply won’t happen. 2nd choice is far more likely. #6 Klondike Creek is the deserved favorite. Blinkers on makes sense. This one’s tactical speed makes him dangerous. This race is a variation of 6-1, 1-6.
Race 8: #4 Norwegian Spy drops in class off a middle of the road run in her first start of the year. Glatt put her through her paces in July and gave her a work over the surface for this. We’ll see what she has left to offer today. #10 Stormy Countess contested the pace on debut before giving way in the lane. Grayson legs up Delgadillo for this one’s second start. Strong works since her debut for the Get Stormy filly. Bobby Wayne Grayson with two wins on a Friday card at Del Mar? Not as crazy as you might think. #12 Team Astrology had a decent breeze last year at Barretts March when purchased for 60k but debuts this year for only 20k. I love the progression of her works and the most recent gate move at San Luis Rey. I’m not sure how good she is now but the rest of this group isn’t much. #2 Silic’s Angel debuts for Nunez as a 4yo. Her worktab is a tad spotty, but I think that’s to be expected from the barn. Crazier things have happened.
