There’s a great 9-race card today at Belmont Park, with the opener going off at 1:30 PM EDT. We’re happy to have Ed Piluso (@EdPiluso) providing picks & analysis of all 9 races! Ed’s a great young handicapper, who you’ll be able to find on the brand-new racing website, the Daily Gallop, which recently launched. You can also see Ed’s picks & analysis on his blog.
Best of luck to everyone following along!
There has been plenty of rain and off turf days at Belmont and though tomorrow it isn’t supposed to rain they were off turf today and it was raining all day at Belmont. Therefore off turf selections will be in parenthesis!
Race 1: 2B-5-6 (5-1A-4)
#2B HIERARCHY adds blinkers today and gets Johnny V up today. He’s only been improving with his finishes and against this crop today he looks much the best.
Race 2: 10-8-9
#10 DEVILRY ran well first off the layoff last time out at the level and has every right to improve today. Saez jumps on today, he gets a cut back in distance and worked well is his work before this race.
Race 3: 11-9-10 (7-2-1)
#11 WE SHOULD TALK won at Saratoga over a yielding turf two times ago and ran well over a yielding turf last time out at Belmont. This is huge as if they’re on turf today it will not be fast and will have moisture in it. Rosario jumps back on and at 6/1 ML this gelding looks solid.
Race 4: 6-9-2 (4-6-9)
#6 DING DONG DITCH ran well over the yielding turf at Saratoga and Johnny V has ridden him to two straight second place finishes. That solid race over a wet turf was at the level and this guy should have a solid chance green or brown.
Race 5: 5-2-1
#5 REGALIAN has done extremely well at the trip and even run well on wet tracks. We see consistent works and a solid track record around this level, Junior hops on today.
Race 6: 5-4-3
#5 FAMILY BIZ has been ITM in both career starts and has even run over a wet track which is a huge leg up here. That bullet work last time out just solidifies the top pick here.
Race 7: 4-7-2 (3-7-1A)
#4 MORRISON won last time Luis Saez jumped on and that was over a yielding turf and that speed figure was the best of his career. We see two consistent works since that last race which was also over a wet turf at the trip.
Race 8: 9-7-2
#9 BON RAISON goes for the three peat today and the last race was over this Belmont oval on an off turf day. Joel jumps back up today and they will attempt to win at the same distance under the same circumstances, I think they have a great shot.
Race 9: 6-5-3 (4-1A-14)
#6 QUESTEQ won last time out over a yielding turf and before that has a 2nd place finish over yielding turf. Speed figs are comparable to the rest of the field and why shouldn’t we take a shot in the finale at 10/1 ML with a solid wet turf runner? Let’s go for a nice hit to end it off!
