Hello fellow racing fans, welcome to another Friday from Elmont, NY where we’re expecting the weather to be much better than last week. Speaking of which, we had 3 on top winners last Friday, but nothing amounting to anything. Also had 3 top picks finish 2nd. Let’s try to improve on that this week.
RACE 1: 2-3
2-FORMAL EVENT is going turf to dirt and is dropping from entry level allowance company to this $16Kn2L today. Gets Irad Ortiz on board for the first time. Her only win was at today’s 1 mile distance.
3-Moment of Triumph is dropping slightly from $20Kn2L, is 1st off the claim for Robert Diodoro(21%), but is 31% when dropping after a claim. Could see her having early lead.
RACE 2: 5-1-8
5-GINS AND TINS is a FTS for Wesley Ward, who is 26% with FTS. Sire Scat Daddy 15% FTS. His Dam High Walden is a former Stakes winner that has produced 4 turf winners.
1-Odie is also trained by Wesley Ward goes dirt to turf(Ward 21%) was 2nd of 12 beaten 2 ½ lengths in debut at Keeneland. Johnny V rides, and is smoking at 36% so fat in the Belmont meet.
RACE 3: 6-2-1
6-SILVERWAVE makes his 2nd start in the States. Chad Brown/Javier Castellano are 38% in their last 24 mounts together. Was a so-so 5th/9 in debut, but should be sharper 2nd off the layoff. Was a Group 2 winner and Group 1 placed in France.
2-Kurilov is the “other” Brown horse in here. Probably didn’t like the soft turf encountered at Churchill on Derby Day in Old Forester Turf Classic. Nearly won G1 Gulfstream Park Turf in February. Irad/Chad 39% combo.
RACE 4: 4-5
4-MERCURIAN has won 2 in a row, both at Belmont. Is 1st off the claim for John Toscano(18%), BRIS speed has improved with every race. Will probably be right behind 1-Velvet Trinni early on. Kendrick Carmouche 22-6-4-5 recently, as of May 19.
5-Simona is going route to sprint, turf to dirt, and is putting Blinkers back on. Is also taking a class drop.
RACE 5: 3-5-4
3-AVERY MAEVE just missed as the 9/5 favorite vs entry level allowance company when last seen. But is coming in off a long layoff. Has ran well off of layoffs in the past. Has good records at Belmont (4-1-1-2) and today’s 6 furlong distance. 5-Ventry Bay was 4th as favorite last out at Keeneland, breaking 3 race ITM streak attained last year. Is 2nd off the layoff for Wesley Ward(27%). Gets JRV back on who guided him to his last picture in the winners circle.
4-Fact Check is probable favorite, and won last out after 11 month layoff. Jason Servis is 26% 2nd off a layoff, and Servis/Irad are 8 of last 15 together!
RACE 6: 5-2-6
5-LION IN WAIT won last time out by 3 ¾ lengths as the 3/10 choice. Last time at today’s level was 2nd four races back. Brad Cox 23% 3rd off a layoff.
2-Hazana was 2nd vs similar at Keeneland, and gets John Velazquez back. Will be stalking the pace, one probably that will be set by top selection.
6-Miss Munnings is 8 of 9 ITM on Turf, including 4/4 at distance. Graduated last out at Aqueduct with a nose win. John Kimmel 25% with maiden winners.
RACE 7: 7-2-5
7-Magori was 2nd but we’ll beaten at today’s level last time out. Think he’s the early speed here and I’m envisioning a gate to wire score here.
2-Pursuing Jusice is the probable favorite and drops from MSW. Has been well bet, but hasn’t reflected in performance so far. Linda Rice 29% MSW to Maiden Claiming. Will let her beat me for top spot considering probable low price and has not been competitive so far.
RACE 8: 4-9-8
4-LOOKING READY was last of 9 in an Optional Claimer on dirt, has been gelded since. Two turf tries were pretty good, 3rd/10 in $100K Awad Stakes, 4th in Grade 3 Pilgrim. Should be on the lead early I’m thinking.
9-Shiraz was 2nd of 6 beaten ¾ length last out at today’s level, is 2nd off the layoff for Mike Maker(22%) Will be coming from off the pace.
8-Forward Motion won last time out but now faces winners for the first time. Linda Rice 25% 2nd off the layoff. Will probably be sitting right behind top choice early on.
RACE 9: 11-10-4-5
The finale today is this MSW going 8.5 furlongs on the turf.
11-Frontierman has a pair of 2nds in last two races, beaten just a neck in last.
10-Playing Hooky was competitive at level while down at Gulfstream over the winter. Trainer Alan Goldberg is having a really good meet so far.
