On Friday, we’re headed out to Belmont Park, where we’ve got FREE PICKS & ANALYSIS on from returning guest handicapper Mark DiLorenzo Jr. (@MarkDiloJr).
Mark is another one of our favorite young handicappers. He spends endless hours analyzing races every week. Over the winter he provided his picks and analysis at Gulfstream ever Saturday. This spring and summer, he switched over to New York, providing FREE PICKS every Friday.
We’re thrilled to have him with us and encourage you to follow him on Twitter, when you get a chance.
Take it away, Mark…
Happy Memorial Day Weekend! After a few weeks in the DANO barn, (and out fishing in the Outer Banks), I’m back to do NYRA Fridays for Dano, and I like what I see today. Play along if I’m hot! Or Toss if I’m cold. Either way, let’s try to print some money…
Race 1: 3,2,7
#3 Red Lodge-I see Mr. Ward with a few winners today, and will start the day off chalky but winning with one of his two in here. Both #3 and #7 have nice turf pedigree, and I’ll use both in pk5 and will listen to my girl Maggie Wolfendale in the paddock to see who looks best.
#7 Dangerous Dan-See above
#2 Made You Look- Strong Turf pedigree for this TAP firster. Dam is out of Serena’s Song, who was one of my all-time favorites.
Race 2: 4 single
#4 Just Sisters-First time Gargan did the trick for this lightly raced 4yo. A repeat of that last effort wins this for fun. Pace was slow early last time out, but dueled the whole way, an angle I always looks for. Pick 5 SINGLE
#6 Spectacular Flash- sure she can win, but I was taught long ago to stay far away from horses who are changing equipment and changing surfaces.
Race 3: 1/5,2
#1 Quest- Is super classy. Keep an eye on this one since a bunch of horses later in the card have RUN AGAINST. Quest wants something to close into. Will she get it? Doesn’t look like it, but I trust Rosario will sit near the lead and clear this field.
#5 My Cara Mia-nice improving sheet line I love. Been running against very classy fillies, and worth a price at a shot.
#2 Coming Attraction-Didn’t lift a hoof first time off this layoff but tossing Shug on the lawn, second time out is at your own risk if you are playing this pick 5 aggressively.
Race 4: 9,7,2
#9 Ross J Dawg- Been waiting in NY for turf. Klesaris gets his first win of meet here. First time firm turf since his career top on Oct 8th
#7 Cort- Lots to like about this guy’s turf pedigree. 3 sibs won FTO Turf and is a half to Due Diligence. Must use on pick 5.
#2 Baltic Art- Wesley Ward is so dangerous in these spots off a layoff. During his debut he didn’t take any money (big negative) but was against a big speed friendly turf course.
Race 5: 1,6/4
#1 Lebowski-Was behind odds on Scarlet Goddess last time out, but showed me something. Made a big big sheet move in last that scares me, but was very strong through the finish line on the dead part of the track. The dude abides.
#6 Warriors Diva-Was behind a slow pace last time too, where even money shot Game Girl cleared down the lane. Gets a softer spot here and fits.
#4 Tizthefastlaine- wasn’t long ago a Dutrow horse that looked like this was very dangerous. If the price is right I’ll use underneath.
Race 6: Single #7 Cliffs Dover
#7 Cliffs of Dover- Last time out this 4yo colt was the favorite while getting Saez back aboard and I played to win. I thought he would go to the lead and stay there, but had a bad start. I’m coming back with today and is my late pk4 SINGLE. Not much pace presence only increases my conviction
Race 7: 6,4,2
#6 Mongolian King- 2 weeks ago this horse bore out around the 2nd turn when a VERY new jockey and bug tried to rally him between horses and didn’t want to go. That is not this horse’s style, as he wants the front end. If we can get a good break out of the gate this one stays up top and clears this field. His sheet numbers this winter are better than these, and has also had some solid attempts at Big Sandy vs some nice fields.
#4 Brolic- Big negative trainer change IMO, but Rosario shows up for a so so barn that wins when he jumps aboard. He is lightly raced and can win with a backwards move.
#2 Outlash- Didn’t lift a hoof off the layoff. Levine is better second time out, but I’m not betting my greenbacks on this horse at 8-5, but will use defensively.
Race 8: 7/9,6
#7 Summer House- I don’t see much speed in here. This one likes to sit near the lead and expect Lezcano to steal this one. He ran a good enough number to try dirt again, last time out, but Hall of Famer Billy Mott knows what he is doing…cutting back from his effort two back and wins here.
#9 Glass House-Impressive first time North America, after breaking poorly and closing huge. The extra furlongs scares me, but using on pk4 and under. HAVE TO RESPECT a horse who beat 29 colts in his maiden score in Ireland.
#6 Quaver- Broke through her 3yo top off the layoff, an angle I love. Like above extra furlong scares me though.
#3 Ortiga- Easy to toss a 12-1 shot right? But just making sure you know why. Leah is ice cold, and her numbers off this type of layoff for grass horses is BADDDDD
Race 9: 7,2,10
#7 Ultimate Cause-watch the board here as I want this one to take some money. Dam is a SW turfer and Lynch can fire FTO.
#10 Complicated- has just been burning people’s money for some time now, pretty much because of her 2nd by a nose to Lady Eli. She gets a softer group here so is the one to beat.
#2 Deltalina- Never had a chance to win on Halloween vs a nice group. Will be getting firm turf
#5 Lady Soul- This one is bred for dirt. Dam is a half to Materiality and My Miss Sophia (who did win on turf once) I don’t see TAP have a ton of success with a move like this so tossing but always beware of the TODDSTER!
#11 Laquesta- Ribaudi us 0 for 16 with 150+ layoff on the turf
